Microsoft and Compuverde announced they have entered into a license agreement to enable access to Microsoft’s Server Message Block (SMB) file transport technology for Compuverde’s software-defined storage (SDS) solution.
Microsoft Technology Licensing LLC was formed in 2014 to acquire, manage and license Microsoft’s patent portfolio.
“We are excited to partner with an innovative company like Compuverde and provide its customers with our exceptional SMB file transport services for non-Windows solutions,” said Micky Minhas, head of Microsoft Technology Licensing.
“As we continue to invest in licensing intellectual property associated with core technologies, this agreement showcases how Microsoft works with companies like Compuverde to enable solutions like SMB for SDS implementations.”
Compuverde CEO Stefan Bernbo said: “The great SDS migration shows no sign of slowing down, and organizations moving some or all of their data and applications will need a robust network file sharing protocol,” said Stefan Bernbo, CEO of Compuverde.
“Partnering with Microsoft offers us the opportunity to deliver the shared access critical to successful cloud computing initiatives.”
